The degree of Technical Engineering in Public Works prepares the graduate for professional activity, within the legally established requirements which are specific to each specialisation of the degree. In the case where the graduate so desires, they may apply to study Civil Engineering. If accepted, within the number of places available, they will join the Study Programme at the Second cycle stage, which is to say in the third year.
The School is responsible for all Study Programmes in Civil Engineering and Technical Engineering in Public Works degree titles. The Departments are responsible for the Doctorate Programmes.
Teaching objectives:
The programme provides students with a wide and general technical training that allows them to develop a sucessful professional career in whatever of the varied fields of Civil Engineering.
Theorical lectures and classroom practices are combined with laboratory and field experiences, technical visits to construction sites and another facilities and placements in companies, institutions or research centres.
Basic contents:
During the first years students receive strong basic education, mainly based on mathematical and physical disciplines. Subsequently pre-technological subjects are introduced and, finally, students are trained in applied technologies.
Professional careers:
Civil Engineers develop their activities in road works, hydraulic, oceanographic and coastal engineering, environmental engineering, building structures and public works, transport and urban planning. On the other hand professionals can act in different spheres: Civil Service and Management Bodies (planning and operation), consultancy and engineering companies (technical studies, projects, supervision and construction works control) and construction companies (direct development of construction works).
